Encryption & Security FAQ

How does Encbyt's zero-knowledge encryption work?

When you upload a file, Encbyt encrypts it directly in your browser using AES-256-GCM before it is transmitted over the network. Your encryption key is derived from your account password using PBKDF2.

Because your password never leaves your device and we do not store your keys, Encbyt has zero knowledge of your file contents.

Can Encbyt employees read my files?

No. Due to our zero-knowledge architecture, it is mathematically impossible for anyone at Encbyt — or any third party — to decrypt your files.

What happens if law enforcement requests my data?

If we receive a lawful subpoena or warrant, we can only provide non-encrypted account metadata (such as email address, account creation date, and storage usage). We cannot provide file contents because we do not possess the decryption keys.

Account & Password FAQ

What if I forget my password?

Because of our strict zero-knowledge design, we cannot reset your password or recover your encrypted files if you lose your password.

We strongly recommend saving your password in a secure password manager or noting your recovery key in a safe physical location.

How do I change my password?

You can change your password from your Account Settings page while logged in. You will need to enter your current password to authorize the change and re-encrypt your local keys.

Files & Storage FAQ

What is the maximum file upload size?

Free trial accounts can upload files up to 500 MB per file. Premium accounts support individual file sizes up to 10 GB with high-speed chunked uploading.

Are deleted files permanently removed?

When you delete a file from your dashboard, it is moved to the Trash. You can restore it or empty your Trash permanently. Once emptied from Trash, files are securely wiped from our servers.

Billing & Trial FAQ

How does the free trial work?

Every new account comes with a 30-day free trial including 5 GB of secure cloud storage. No credit card is required to start your trial.

How do I upgrade my storage plan?

You can upgrade anytime by clicking the "Upgrade" button in your dashboard sidebar. We accept major credit cards, UPI, and net banking via secure payment gateways.
